DAY ONE – “When You Pray……”

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” Matthew 6:5

Jesus says, “And when you pray…..”
Like most statements from Jesus, this is very simple and yet deeply profound at the same time!
Let’s begin with the simple and obvious truths of this saying.
Jesus expects you to pray regularly!
Prayer is talking to God.
Prayer is also listening to God.
Which of those can you afford not to do?
Which of those can you afford to not do regularly?
If God sent you a text or an email saying, “Let’s set down and talk today!” How would you respond? Wouldn’t you get excited about the opportunity to have a conversation with Jesus?

  1. “Do I pray regularly?”
  2. Have I established a regular daily prayer time?
  3. When was the last time I prayed? If I haven’t prayed today, when will I?
  4. What worry am I carrying that I could share with Jesus in prayer?
  5. Do I feel guilty about not regularly praying?

Heavenly Father forgive me for not praying as often as I know I should. I ask you to help me learn to pray better and to pray every day! I want to tell you every day how much I love you! I want to share my hurts with you so I don’t carry around pain that isn’t necessary. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  • Prioritize prayer. Remove something out of your schedule and put prayer in place of it.
  • Put together a prayer list.
  • Purchase a prayer journal and begin recording your requests and write down what you hear from God.
  • Pick a prayer partner to regularly pray with and to hold you accountable in prayer.
