March 14

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands. 5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. 9 Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth.10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. 11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.” Psalm 63

God chose a shepherd to be a king because He found David, to be a great shepherd of his sheep but more importantly he was a shepherd of his soul. How can you rule over God’s people if you cannot shepherd your soul?

In my previous post I established how David learned to be present or more correctly, to live in the moment and capture the moment and seize the moment! David, by caring well for his sheep had learned to fully embrace the presence of God in the present moment!

The Psalm above is an example of what that looks like.

When David was fully present in God’s presence there was no preoccupation with his past and no fretting over the future. The focus is off David and fully on God, God’s greatness, God’s glory, God’s power, God’s goodness, God’s provision, God’s power, God’s presence, God’s peace and the hope he finds in God!

Notice the intimacy!

Notice the intensity!

Notice the inspiration!

You’re probably thinking, sure, it was easy for David sitting alone in a remote meadow with no one around but his flock to embrace God’s presence in the present moment. Let him try to do that in today’s traffic! Let him try that with today’s crowds! Let him try that amidst distracting smart phones or HD TV sets.

Perhaps there is some truth to those arguments but there is no argument that those devices have off buttons. If you want to be entirely present in His presence, push the buttons! Turn off the power on them and tune into the power of God’s presence! Forget the past. Refuse to fret on the future. Center on the presence of God in the present! Be present in the moment for the moment! Then do the same for the next moment!

Maybe it’s not feasible to be present in His presence for an entire day in 2019 America. But you can do it for five minutes or ten minutes or thirty minutes. Just do it!

If you can do it why not do it?

If you can do it, you should!

Have you ever wondered why Heaven is so wonderful? Have you tried to imagine what eternity is like? I know one thing about them! When you are in eternity you are existing in the forever now! There is no yesterday! There is no tomorrow! There is only now! And that now is in the presence of Jesus in His paradise with all His people! Practice His presence presently!
